Featured on the walls of Gallery West is the work of painter Rob Shaw and the group of artists and students he leads each week in the practice of art-making, all sharing the fellowship that grows from the desire to create.
Also Greyson Smith, a Columbia artist, who creates other worldly narratives with his mixed media; private little environments that become very personal to the viewer. There is much to see and experience in his complex and colorful pieces. His materials are mainly acrylic, gesso, and ink on canvas.
Valerie Hawkins’s primary body of work is done in white stoneware with black glaze and an impressed botanical motif. Working with only fresh leaves and flowers her images, like the landscape, cycle through the seasons. Those who appreciate her work find a similar connection to these small impressions of nature that have been captured in the clay.
